BLACK HISTORY MONTH
Dear Friend,
The San Francisco 49ers Academy is proud to celebrate Black History Month, reflecting on the central role Black Americans have played in our history and what we have been able to accomplish because of their work! We also recognize that in too many ways, we are still fighting the same fights today to ensure students have access to equitable education and basic necessities like food and housing, regardless of where they live or the color of their skin.
Our programs will be buzzing with activities in honor of Black History Month:
- Our Middle School Program is creating a âHeroes Wallâ throughout the month. Students identify a person who they admire and create a mini poster, highlighting their heroâs accomplishments.
- Our High School Program has created a variety of different infographic posters for students to scan QR codes to learn more about various historical Black Americans throughout the month.
This month serves as a reminder to strengthen diversity, inclusion, and equity in our community. As Executive Director of the San Francisco 49ers Academy, I am committed to supporting efforts that help advance the lives of BIPOC youth and the greater community throughout Black History Month and every month of the year. To make our vision a reality, we must lead by example, acting as agents of change and as advocates for our community.
It is a time for us to recommit ourselves, learn from our past, and identify the work that still needs to be done. It is a time to take ownership of the future and light a fire under the generations after us to ignite meaningful change. Black history goes beyond one month, and the future of BIPOC youth is limitless.
Thank YOU for your dedication to our work. For the past 25 years, the impact we have made in changing the trajectory of thousands of lives is a testament to our commitment to the East Palo Alto and East Menlo Park communities.
This month, in particular, I encourage you to reflect on the impact we have made together and ask yourself, âHow might we make a larger impact in the community and help create the next generation of history makers?â
With much gratitude,

Tahisha S. Victor, MSW - Executive Director
