Itâs been one year since the Bay Areaâs first shelter in place order. One year since schools closed and learning went virtual. One year since the world as we know it changed.
This past year has challenged us in ways we could never have predicted. The East Palo Alto community and our students were severely impacted and faced unprecedented hardships. In the face of the pandemic, the 49ers Academy met these challenges head-on. We have been nimble, innovative, and adapted our services to address the pressing needs of our community. We couldn't have done it with you!
Take a look at what your generosity and kindness empowered this past year:
- Hosted 48 students in our Community Learning Hubs, a tech-connected and supportive workspace for their virtual learning
- Provided 118 middle and high school students with case management and weekly check-ins
- Connected over 200 families to the resources they need to live a better quality of life
- Provided $31,000 in grocery store gift cards to families
- Distributed over 1,000 boxes of fresh, healthy food to families
- Celebrated the high school graduation of 19 students (100% graduation rate for the second year in a row!) in our high school program
"The most difficult part of the pandemic has been paying rent. My hours at work got cut. There were some days I worked and some days where I couldn't find any work at all. The 49ers Academy helped my family with food and making sure we had a roof over our heads. I am dealing with some of the hardest times I've ever had and having someone there has been the nicest thing that could have happened to my family and me." - Ms. S., 49ers Academy Parent
The pandemic and distance learning has added trauma, stress, and extra burdens on our students and their families. We know the road forward isnât going to be easy, but we are hopeful. We have an amazing community of people like you that inspire us to keep doing whatever it takes to see all students succeed in school and life.
